Launching our B Corp certification services
Finding a business sustainability certification can be challenging - they are many and varied, often covering different elements of sustainability. Few offer comprehensive recognition and a rigorous framework for creating positive impact across governance, community, customer, employees and environment. That’s why we love B Corp, a certification that does just that.
Certified B Corps are businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. Founded in 2006, the B Corp certification process involves organisations completing the B Impact Assessment, which is then checked and verified by B Lab - the not for profit organisation that manages the B Corp certification programme. An output of the certification process is an improvement report, along with helpful tools to support continuous improvement.
It’s not surprising that B Corp certification is growing in popularity, with applications increasing 38% globally in the past year. There are currently over 5,300 Certified B Corporations in more than 80 countries and over 150 industries.
"The growth for certified B Corps in Aotearoa is particularly encouraging. We now have 72 B Corps in Aotearoa New Zealand, who are collectively employing more than 6,000 people and contributing $3.6b in annual revenue to the economy," said Mindy Leow, Director of Impact and Growth at B Lab Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
Oxygen Consulting is delighted to announce it is now offering clients expert services to support their B Corp certification journey, with Director Sarah Holden having successfully completed B Lab Australia and New Zealand’s B Consultant training. She is now one of 15 B Consultants in New Zealand who has completed the training.
“Its exciting to be able to help businesses with B Corp certification. What I love about it is that it’s suitable for organisations of any size, complexity and in any industry. The assessment process is shaped to fit the unique purpose, structure and activities of the applicant, providing a fair playing field to evaluate business impact in a meaningful way” says Sarah.
“We’ve seen major growth in businesses developing sustainability strategy over the past three years, so it is great to be able to offer a certification programme that comprehensively recognises their efforts and continues to motivate them to raise the bar on their sustainability.”
