Backing Better: Part 2
Earlier this month, our Principal Consultant Gerri Ward shared the first instalment in her ‘Backing Better’ series of interviews with young sustainability thought leaders who are making a real, tangible positive difference in tackling climate change.
In her second interview she talks to Finn Ross – founder of the Climate Action Company, climate scientist, author, activist, and ocean-lover. Finn is passionate about the role of blue carbon, and seaweed in the role of climate change mitigation. Gerri and Finn cover climate tipping points, communications challenges, marine carbon removal technologies, and ocean alkalinity enhancement.
This interview is super-timely in the context of the recent release of Westpac’s report on “A Sustainable Marine Sector: Transitioning to a Blue Economy report”, which estimates that the marine economy contributes more than $10bn to the NZ economy, and estimates that figure could increase to $14bn by 2035 if the sector is able to transition to a more sustainable “blue economy”.
Note – The paper Finn refers to on electrochemical alkalinity enhancement can be found here.
“What drives me is the irreversible climate tipping points, and doing everything I can to contribute to fighting for every fraction of a degree to prevent those happening.” – Finn Ross
